Good News on the Turbine Car that was on the “Tower”

I just got word from Bill C. that he has the car #991247 (was on the tower in the WPC last I saw it) running! Yes we have another turbine car that may be fully operational soon. After re-filling all the fluids (they had been drained for storage) and other “prep” work – it started – then filled the archives with smoke! Bill soon figured out what the problem was and thanks to his experience and knowledge of the cars – he got the smoke fixed. Still a few parts that “walked off” when it was “mounted” on the tower need to be made before it will be fully functional but that time may be very near. I wish I lived closer to Detroit.

Maybe I can get Bill to take it for a “shake-down” cruise to Northern Minnesota – well – maybe not.

Remember, you heard it first here at TurbineCar.Com!

Steve Lehto has a article about the Gilmore/Detroit Historical car in Mopar Action

It has finally been published.  Steve told me about it a year ago, before his book on the Turbine Car was published (see Tarheel Press).

Steve visited car #25 (the Detroit Historical Society car) before it was moved to the Gilmore Museum in Hickory Corners Michigan.  Steve exposed the fact that one of the nine surviving turbine cars was locked in a bubble in a warehouse in a bad area of Detroit.

Pick up a copy of October Mopar Action to read all about it and see the photos of the car in the bubble.

Yesterday I talked my wife into seeing the new Pixar movie “Cars” (not her choice, but she went for the popcorn) – all I can say is “what a great movie!” Oh, the wife loved it too – she even wants the DVD when it is out!

I won’t tell you the story but it is a new high-water mark for being Car-Guy-Correct. As a kids movie – I don’t know as if it will be as great as Toy Story or The Incredibles but kids should find it amusing. Adult car guys should see this movie! No – you car guys Have to see this movie!!!

The voice acting by John Ratzenberger, Paul Newman, Owen Wilson, Bonnie Hunt and the rest is just fantastic! You have to love Tony Shalhoub’s voice too – I still have not found out what Billy Crystal did but his name was in the credits.

By the way – STAY FOR THE CREDITS! My daughter taught me to always sit and watch – they are long (about five minutes) but very interesting – all the slobs that left early missed some good humor and interesting views they will have to go back or buy the DVD – hahahahah!!!!

See it!!!!
